Role:

Responsibilities:

Engineering Management
- Provide leadership, direction and development of the engineering team.

Role:

Engineer with 4-15 years’ experience in Canada. The ideal candidate will have worked with multi-disciplinary teams in an engineering consulting environment. While the successful candidate will be expected to coordinate with co-workers, clients and other project stakeholders, they will not initially be expected to perform project management duties. However, the opportunity to manage projects may be provided to those who are interested and competent.

Duties:

Renewable Project Engineering, Analysis and Design
- Provide leadership, direction and development of the engineering team.

Canadian Projects Limited is seeking experienced civil engineers to support the successful delivery of North America-wide renewable energy projects ranging from the refurbishment of century-old hydroelectric stations to displacement of diesel generation in the north and gigawatt-scale wind projects for hydrogen production. Other water resource projects include river engineering, dams and hydraulic structures, dam safety, and flood risk mitigation. We are involved in all stages of projects from conceptual designs and feasibility studies, through detailed design, construction, and commissioning.

Supported by senior technical experts, other engineering staff and civil designers, you will be part of a highly collaborative engineering design team to deliver high quality studies, technical reports, presentations, calculation packages, construction drawings and specifications, and provide engineering support during construction.

Responsibilities
- Development of project concepts and alternatives including systematic assessment of alternatives and project optimization, considered to be a highly valuable aspect of our services.
- A broad range of hydrotechnical engineering work including hydraulic and hydrologic modelling using various software (Microsoft Excel, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS), flood and low flow statistical analysis, transient analysis and hydraulic structure design (intakes, spillways, penstocks, open channels).
- Power and energy modelling including cost estimating and project economics for hydro, wind, and solar projects.
- Project general arrangement drawings including providing sketches and direction to technologists and coordination of inputs from other disciplines.
- Civil designs for dams, roads, embankments, channels, and other civil works based on hydrotechnical design efforts and geotechnical inputs from others.
- Involvement in regulatory approval processes including general awareness of local requirements, preparation of various technical documents, support client interaction with regulatory agencies, and determining conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
- Contribute to the growth and development of the company. Identify opportunities to improve company tools and techniques. Contribute to proposals, client development, and targeted marketing opportunities.
- Work as an individual and as part of a cross-functional team to execute project work. Provide leadership, direction, and mentoring to junior staff. Act as project engineer on larger projects or project manager and engineer on smaller engineering assignments. deliver on time and on budget
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) or Engineering (B. Eng.) in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) registation in at least one Canadian jurisdication.
- At least 5 years of Consulting Engineering experience, working in a multidiscipline environment and capable of working on several major projects simultaneously.
- Strong written, verbal and technical communication, and critical thinking skills. Ability to express ideas effectively and professionally to engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Well organized with the ability to manage and prioritize tasks to best meet project schedules.
- Proficient in the Microsoft 365 platform including Teams and SharePoint. Expert skills in Microsoft Excel would be a benefit. GIS software (Google Earth, ArcGIS, Global Mapper). Some experinece with or exposure to AutoDesk AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Inventor, and Revit would also be a benefit.

Responsibilities:

Site Coordination
- Ensure contractors fully understand their contractual obligations and project requirements
- Liaise with contractors to minimize contractor conflict and encourage synergy on multiple contractor work sites.
- Identify slow progress, inadequate quality or performance, possible future construction problems and suggest possible solutions.
Project Schedule and Cost Control
- Monitor project schedule and costs, update and report as project development proceeds. Take action, as required, to address issues in a proactive manner.
- Confirm monthly contract progress payment documents, forecast and manage potential changes.
Construction Monitoring
- Monitor and inspect construction to confirm quality and that the constructed works are in conformance with the design.
- Review and manage technical submittals (shop drawings, RFI’s, RFC’s and work plans) to confirm conformance with design and quality of work.
- Address issues that arise in a timely and cost effective manner.
- Effective documentation of progress through daily and weekly reports (with detailed photos).
Equipment Procurement Completion
- Monitor the receipt and inspection of major equipment/materials to ensure compliance with technical aspects and commercial terms, facilitate responsibility transfers and acceptance.
Regulatory Compliance and Liaison
- Act as the Owner’s representative during construction, responsible for day to day and week to week interface with key stakeholders including regulatory agencies, government (local, municipal to federal), landowners.
Qualifications:
- Strong construction background, having worked on multiple renewable energy projects. Experience with wind turbine foundation construction and/or turbine erection/installation is preferred.
- Construction experience of at least 10 years, capable of working on several major industrial projects simultaneously in a multidiscipline environment.
- Prefer an Engineer or appropriately recognized technical designation.

Civil/Structural Engineering Technologist having 3-5 years’ experience with a consulting engineering firm and a strong mapping and civil structures background, to be an integral part of the Design Drafting team, creating comprehensive drawing packages to effectively communicate Canadian Projects Limited’s designs to its Clients and its Clients’ contractors with the ability to work on several major projects simultaneously in a multidiscipline environment.

Responsibilities:

AutoCAD Drafting
- Create drawings and mapping for hydroelectric plants and wind power sites in the renewable energy sector using AutoCAD Civil 3D and REVIT.
- Use AutoCAD Civil 3D and REVIT with minimal guidance on the use and features of the drafting software and the computer processes of the current version.
- Understand key features of the CIVIL 3D design module including surface creation/manipulation, alignments, corridors and grading.
- Understand key features of REVIT including foundations, structural framing and reinforcing.
- Understand civil, structural and mechanical drawings and creation of complete drawing packages.
Design Capabilities
- Produce accurate 2D and 3D drawings using 3D visualization of terrain, cut and fill slopes, concrete structures and pipelines.
- Design basic geometric relationships such as segmental pipe bends, compound bends, UTM coordinate conversions, trench sections and civil engineering surveying layout.
- Calculate quantity take-offs of earthwork, concrete volumes and miscellaneous steel for complex structures.
Technical Experience
- Experience with software such as Arc GIS and RoadEng is an asset.
